Welcome to Year 3!

After a wonderful opening topic (Stone Age to Iron Age), the children will now be learning about forces and magnets in a science based topic. This topic will be linked to our class text, The Tin Forest, and the children will continue to see more evidence of forces and magnets within our English and Maths lessons to build cross-curricular links. Having greater access to the laptops will ensure that our pupils can retrieve and present information in a variety of ways.

To deepen their understanding and to build on these creative elements in school, we have included several enrichment tasks in their new homework menu. Please take the time to support your child when completing their homework to share their excitement of this topic. We appreciate the time that you spend reading with your children at home, as well as the recording of this in their pupil planners. This quality time will help your children to develop a lifelong love of reading, the enjoyment of which is noticeable at school. If you need a recommendation, please do ask.

We also send home in their pupil planners the children’s spellings for the week. These are sent home on a Tuesday and the children are tested on them on the following Monday. Any time spent with your children practising these spellings is much appreciated. In year 3 we are placing a big emphasis on learning our times tables, with a particular focus initially on the 3, 4 and 8 times tables. Children need to be able to quickly recall all multiplication and division facts for these times tables. Although they are practised regularly in school, it is beneficial for the children’s recall to have extra practice of these at home.

Please be aware that our PE day has changed from Thursday to Wednesday afternoons due to changes within our timetable. We have been impressed with the consistency that Year 3 children have when bringing in their Salfords PE kits. If your child does not have a Salfords PE kit (as it is being ordered or misplaced), could you please try to ensure that blue or black coloured items of clothing are used.

Finally, we would like to acknowledge the support you continue to give as parents to our Year 3 children and Salfords Primary School. Our pupils try to show as many school values as possible on a daily basis because they aspire to be great role models for our KS1 children! We are very proud of how keen our children are to learn, and the encouragement and support they give to each other.

If you ever have any queries or questions, please do not hesitate to contact either class teacher.

Thank you and 'be your best'!
