House System

‘Lovely and supportive team, who are working in the best interest of children and families.’

At Salfords we have a 'house system' which every child and adult belongs to. When a new child or adult starts at school they are enrolled in their house. They will join either Redgrave, Brunel, Nightingale or Rowling.

We have found that a positive House System, which promotes the philosophy of team spirit, fair play and togetherness enhances the academic curriculum and provides a broader experience for our pupils.

Our house system names relate to individuals who are well known for exemplifying one of our school values. Our values are kindness,
respect, courage and excellence. We refer to these values constantly and consistently to establish clear expectations for all of our
community. They support our attitude to learning and behaviour and, if you spend time at Salfords, you will hear adults and pupils referring
to the values regularly.

Our house patrons are:

Redgrave:

Sir Steve Redgrave - is a retired British rower who won gold medals at five consecutive Olympic Games from 1984 to 2000.
He has also won three Commonwealth Games gold medals and nine World Rowing Championships golds. The house value for Redgrave is respect. As a sportsperson, Sir Steve Redgrave showed great respect to his team mates and competitors.

Nightingale:

Florence Nightingale - was a celebrated English social reformer and statistician, and the founder of modern nursing. She is famous for changing the face of nursing around the world and did so in a time when she had to overcome many barriers. Florence Nightingale is famous for her kindness - Nightingale's house value.

Brunel:

Isambard Brunel - was an English mechanical and civil engineer who is considered "one of the most ingenious and prolific figures in engineering history". Brunel is credited with creating many important structures which helped to open new opportunities for Britain.
Brunel's house value is excellence.

Rowling:

Joanne Rowling is a British novelist best known as the author of the Harry Potter fantasy series. She faced many setbacks in her early career and persisted in her goal of becoming and author. Rowling's house value is courage, as JK Rowling showed courage in the face of adversity.

Whilst the houses are named after these four famous Britons, we also refer to other international role models. If you look at our house boards you will see children and adults from around the world who our pupils have recognised as exemplifying our four values.
